My name is Gary and just over 18 months ago as I was recovering from a pretty aggressive course of chemotherapy, when there was a knock at my door, when I answered there was an handsome young chap by the name of Kris who asked if he could have a chat with me about the things I loved about where I live, which was a nice surprise as no-one had actually knocked in 4 years and asked my opinion about anything. After listening to my opinions for about half an hour he asked if I would be interested in some voluntary work in the community, which at the time was the last thing on my agenda. But alas I decided to give it a try and found myself liking it, after working 18 months voluntary I have now got myself a full time job as a trainee Community Organiser, I work with some amazing people and at 51 years of age that young chap who is now a good friend of mine and work colleague lit up something inside me and gave me a new lease of life. I have been involved in numerous community projects ranging from a car wash with the local fire service to taking some kids of our estate to Knowsley safari park and now I am out knocking on doors myself and hopefully I can reach some isolated people in the community and inspire them into taking action and making our communities a safer place to live.

Hi my name is Paul, really looking forward to getting to know about the area.
I’ve worked previously in a number of fairly strange jobs, ranging from journalism to stand up comedian.
I’m interested in how we as a community can have a say in how things run. Sometimes it’s easy to think that we have no say and start to accept that things just have to be the way they are. Together we may be able to make positive changes where they are needed, and protect the things we actually care about.
If you see me around, stop me to have a chat, it would be great to meet you.

Hello. My name is Madison, but most people call me Maddie. I lived in Newton-Le-Willows all my life. I applied for the community organiser job because I love my little town and have a real passion about trying to help to make it a nicer place. I’m hoping that in this role I will be able to engage and inspire a network of people to take action, to make Newton-Le-Willows a better place for them. I will be working in the community, mainly on the Fairbrothers estate but I’m sure over the next year I will become a familiar face all over Newton-Le-Willows and I’m looking forward to meeting and working with you all.

"My name is Steve and I am 50 years old. I am a Police Community Support Officer with Greater Manchester Police. I was introduced to Community Organising through a 1-to-1 listening, and was approached to be involved in the creation of an independent Food Bank in Newton-le-Willows with others who had been listened to by Emily. I asked myself whether I thought that Newton needed a Food Bank. I did some research and looked at deprivation rates and statistics for child poverty issued by the Children’s Society and was shocked and saddened at the thought that we actually did need a food bank in this day and age in our society. Over the past 12 months I have played a huge part in the organisation and creation of Newton and Earlestown Food Bank. I am currently the chairman of the food bank and balance the day to day management and distribution of food with my day job and my duties as a school governor at the District CofE primary and with my other voluntary work with Newton Boys and Girls Club."
My name is Megan Bradbury, I am 16 years old and I come from St Helens. I came here to volunteer because I have done volunteer work before in St Helens library and I enjoyed it a lot because it taught me a lot about commutation. I also wanted volunteer here because it involves looking after children and that’s want I want to do in the future. And also doing this volunteering will look good on my CV and that will get me get a good job in the future. I also like volunteering because I get to meet new people and make new friends. Volunteering also helps me with communication with meeting new people and being in a different environment.
